Corona virus infection called COVID-19 (Corona Virus Disease 2019) was first discovered in the city of Wuhan, China at the end of December 2019. This virus spreads quickly and spreads to almost all countries.

Symptoms of Corona Virus (COVID-19)

Early symptoms of Corona virus infection or COVID-19 can resemble flu symptoms, namely fever, runny nose, dry cough, sore throat, and headache. After that, the symptoms may disappear and heal or even get worse.

Patients with COVID-19 with severe symptoms may experience high fever, cough with phlegm and even blood, shortness of breath, or chest pain. These complaints arise when the body reacts to the Corona virus.

It can transmit corona virus between humans through sprinkling of phlegm or saliva of COVID-19 sufferers when coughing or sneezing. Splashes of phlegm and saliva can enter the body through the eyes, nose, or mouth.

There are three general symptoms that can show they infect a person with the Corona virus, namely:

  • Fever (body temperature above 38 degrees Celsius)
  • dry cough
  • Hard to breathe

There are several other symptoms that can also appear in Corona virus infection although it is less common, namely:

  • Diarrhea
  • Headache
  • Conjunctivitis
  • Loss of ability to taste
  • Loss of ability to smell (anosmia)
  • Rash on the skin

What Happens When The Corona Virus Enters The Body

When entering the body, the Corona virus will stick to the cell walls of the respiratory tract and lungs, then enter them to multiply there.

The immune system will detect the process. After that, the immune system will react by sending white blood cells and forming antibodies to fight and kill the virus.

When the body’s resistance reaction to the Corona virus occurs, several symptoms will appear, such as fever. These symptoms will usually appear within 2-14 days after exposure to the Corona virus.

In some people who are infected with the Corona virus, the body’s immune system reaction will successfully fight the virus, so that the symptoms subside and the person recovers on their own.

However, if a person’s immune system is not strong enough to fight the Corona virus or overreacts, then that person will experience more severe COVID-19 symptoms, namely high fever and shortness of breath, or organ damage.

This is more at risk for the elderly or people who have previous co-morbidities, such as diabetes, cancer, and HIV.

The COVID-19 vaccination aims to build immunity against the Corona virus. In addition, vaccination also aims to form herd immunity. That way, people who cannot get the vaccine because they have certain conditions, such as a severe allergic reaction to the vaccine, can be protected.
