How to Encourage Yourself from Depression

Depression is one of the most common mental disorders in the world. WHO says there are about 300 million people who suffer from depression worldwide.

When suffering from depression you feel a loss of enthusiasm to perform daily activities. But there are ways to encourage yourself that you can do to go about your daily activities.

A person who suffers from depression can feel a loss of enthusiasm to carry out daily activities. Even for those suffering from major depression, getting out of bed or just eating can be a burden.

Coupled with several symptoms of accompanying depression, such as loss of enjoyment when doing activities you enjoy, difficulty sleeping, anxiety that often arises, to loss of appetite, making all activities feel difficult to do.

But the good news is there are ways to encourage yourself that you can do to go about your daily activities.

How to encourage yourself up in times of depression

The key to how to cheer yourself up when you’re depressed is to start your day with the easy stuff. Each time you do this, add more easy tasks so that you can gradually reach your goal or do the task you want.

Avoid depression by getting up early

Get out of bed

When you’re not depressed, getting out of bed is trivial. But when depression comes, it becomes a struggle. Therefore, make getting out of bed your main goal.

When you wake up, convince yourself that if you can do this, then you can do other things too.

Get enough sleep

Depression often leaves you feeling mentally and physically exhausted. Therefore, getting enough sleep will help improve your mood. But don’t let your sleep deprivation or oversleep. Both things will actually make your mood worse.

Praise yourself

Every time you do something you want, give yourself credit. It doesn’t matter how trivial it is. When you make a cup of coffee, praise yourself. When you fix your place too, praise yourself. Praise is a powerful way to encourage yourself.

Avoid negativity

Negative things received by our minds can change your mood so messy and make you even less excited. Therefore, avoid negative things such as talking to toxic people, reading sad news, to surfing the internet. Instead of uplifting, this causes your mood to fall even further.

Walk out of the house

Doing physical activity outside the home can improve your mood. Try to walk outside the house even if only for 10 minutes. Changing the surrounding atmosphere is a good way to change your mood.

Create a checklist

When we successfully complete a task there is a sense of pleasure that arises. Therefore, make a checklist for each task that you will do. Mark the tasks you’ve done and paste the list where you can see it easily.

By seeing what tasks you have done will increase your enthusiasm for other tasks.

Another alternative is to keep a journal about the things you did today. As well as being a great way to encourage yourself, keeping track of your successes will leave room for negativity to enter your mind.
